Spring Cleaning Checklist: Social Media Edition

Person scrolling through Instagram.

We’ve entered April, and spring has (finally!) sprung. Longer days and warmer weather have us all ready to kick off our spring cleaning frenzy - including social media.

According to Rallio, “Tidying up your accounts will help ensure your online profiles are working overtime to generate leads and build relationships through daily engagement. The alternative — ignoring your social media — could leave you with minimal impact and even tarnish your online reputation.”

A new season - and quarter - is the perfect time to clean up your social media presence as a business. Check out some of the below to-dos to get started.

  1. Audit your social media channels and strategies. An audit allows you to pinpoint what strategies are working, identify new opportunities for business development, and ensure your branding is consistent across your entire digital presence. Hootsuite offers a great template for conducting a full social media audit.

  2. Re-secure your accounts. When’s the last time you changed your passwords? Did someone on the team who had access to your pages recently leave the company? Now is the time to update all passwords and quickly run through your administrative roles page on Facebook and LinkedIn.

  3. Run a competitive analysis. What’s the competition up to? Time to re-identify your competitors (and any new faces that recently entered the ring), analyze their social media channels, and identify their strengths and weaknesses.

  4. Evaluate your brand presence. Are all owned business channels following your most up-to-date brand guidelines? Are you employees informed on what they can and can’t share? Do they have access to your brand guidelines and external marketing materials? These are all things to double check.

  5. Review your about sections and bios. Ensure all information listed on your social media platforms is relevant, timely, and engaging. Make sure your links are functioning properly and drive to the right place. Double check your contact information and call to action buttons.

  6. Refresh your social media goals. It’s a new month, new quarter, and new season. Take time to update your social media goals based on business wants, needs, and plans to come.
