5 Tips to Make Your Email Marketing Stand Out

Email marketing in 2022 is a difficult task. Brands already work hard to ensure they don’t land in a spam folder - but what happens when the recipient is waking up to hundreds of emails a day, and ends up deleting them all?

Just like social media, brands are finding it increasingly difficult to reach their target audience through email due to the large number of content going out in a single day. Luckily, there are different ways to make sure your email stands out from the rest. Here are five tips to get started.

  1. Personalize your subject line, and make it catchy. If you have the tools to do so, add your recipient’s name to your subject line. According to Campaign Monitor, 74% of marketers say targeted personalization increases customer engagement, and they see an average increase of 20% in sales when using personalized experiences. Additionally, the subject line (and preview text) is the first thing recipients see when getting an email. Use eye-catching phrases and thought-provoking phrases that make a reader want to see more.

  2. Be relevant. Before scheduling an email, do a quick search on news, events, holidays, and trends. A brand that is tapped in to what’s happening around them - rather than writing generic copy about what you’re selling or promoting - is more likely to catch the interest of recipients.

  3. Have a clear Call-to-Action. Make sure your call to action reflects exactly what you’d like your recipient to do.

Notice that each of these CTAs use clear direction on what’s to come behind the link, and uses possessive language (“your”) to personalize the action.

  4. OPTIMIZE FOR DESKTOP AND MOBILE. It’s 2022, and this is a non-negotiable. Campaign Monitor reports that more than 70% of people read their email in a mobile app. Always send email tests and check out previews to ensure your templates and layouts make sense for both desktop and mobile. It may look perfect on the computer, but have uneven breaks on mobile. Nothing turns a reader off faster than a poor design.

  5. Test, test, test. Conduct A/B testing on subject lines, preview text, imagery, call-to-actions, times of day to send, days of week to send, and more. You may find specific elements of each email that lead to conversions more easily, and can combine them to create the perfect email.
